Re-integration is hard on all parties. When soldiers get back some of them can get right back into the groove and some can't for a little while and then there are ones like my husband who may never get back into who they used to be. My husband was fortunate enough with the job situation, he finished college when he got back and now has a career in a cancer research center but when it comes to socially i still find him pushing away from it. I will say go out have a good time with the guys and i can stay home with the baby. He won't go not because of our son but because he "doesn't feel like it" and thats doesnt make sense to me

My better half :) did 2 tours to A-stan before going to the civilian sector in A-stan and the main thing we did back then and continue to do to this day is simple, but not without its bumps and bruises. First few days back the only plans we make as a family is to play everything by ear and I do mean EVERYTHING! Right down to dinner plans. It takes him a few days to get back into the swing of life at home and not carrying an M-4 everywhere he goes. The reason for everything by ear is that some trips he might want to come home and veg out and order a pizza or he might decide to go to dinner and a movie. It is always a matter of what he is comfortable with!! I hear of first time deployment spouses making grand plans and parties and they don't realize that while it is exciting for them to have their other half home, it takes time for your other half to adjust to life at home and not being in the sandbox and being shot at. Patience is always key when coping with not just the deployment but also the homecoming. And for those who love to ask detailed questions of the deployment, DON'T!! If they want to talk about it be open to listening but do not expect to hear them tell stories….remember they go there to protect us and that includes protecting their loved ones from hearing about the horrors of humanity. But if deployed person does open up and say what life was really and truly like, brace yourself, it isn't pretty.
